Lamiya Zahin (March 13, 2000 - August 2, 2004)

Lamiya was a beautiful and perfect child. The type of child every parent would wish for. A child gifted with extreme charisma. Lamiya had the ability to draw everyone's affection and in return show great affection. She was a loving child with a wonderful heart. You could talk for hours with Lamiya, as she would fascinate you with her wonderfully witty stories. She was extremely sharp for her age. She was very much loved by all who came across her. She was nick named "Our Little Princess".

Lamiya was born on March 13, 2000. Her father was pursuing his Ph.D. and her mother her masters degree at Texas A& M. On the 31st of July 2004, a tragic accident took place. Lamiya was in her house with her mother and her paternal grand parents (who had come to visit) when an explosion due to gas leakage claimed the life of our little one. All four of them severely burnt were flown to John Sealy Hospital in Galveston. After fighting for her life for about a day, Lamiya passed away from the injuries on August 02, 2004 at around 00:35 a.m. At the time of death, Lamiya had her father by her side and her mother was still struggling with her own life and the life of her unborn child. Lamiya was rested in College Station, the place she knew the best on August 3rd, 2004. The place she spent all her short childhood years playing in the parks, riding her bike, walking with her parents, attending her day care etc. May the little Angel's Soul rest in peace, as she starts her next eternal phase of life.

Lamiya could have grown up to be a beautiful girl, an intelligent student and a wonderful daughter to two very nice people. She could have contributed so much to society. She had so much left to see and learn in life, so much more to enjoy. But due to a single incident everything changed.

We, friends and family of Lamiya have decided to invest our time and money to do something worthwhile in Lamiyas name, for the betterment of lives of the poor and sick children in Bangladesh and USA. Established in July 2007, this fund, which is going to be self-supported, will try to provide assistance in healthcare and other basic needs (like food, sanitation, education) to children. Although our main objective is to provide assistance to children, this fund will also attempt help other humanitarian causes.
